Standing outside the Tower of London, I waited in a long line of people eagerly waiting to see Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress. Stone upon stone the historically rich castle stretches into the sky. I was enamored by the sheer enormity of the grounds and the grandeur of this symbol of power. Inside reside the Crown Jewels, a rich collection of royal regalia.
Gliding my fingers along the glass, I could almost touch the monarchy’s regal splendor of crowns, scepter, and sword embellished with jewels of every color. Around me light bounced off these artifacts, now prisms creating rainbows on cold, white stone walls. The palace is an emblem of majesty bestowed on centuries of England’s royal family. Surrounded by pomp and circumstance, the presence of the King and Queen is a feast for the senses.
Majesty is defined as “sovereign power, authority, or dignity.” It is used in addressing reigning sovereigns and bears a splendor of quality or character.
In one word, majesty is greatness.
Writers of the Old and New Testament often used the words of royalty to capture the brilliance of God. “Out of the north comes golden splendor; God is clothed with awesome majesty.” Job 37:22
God is Naddir Kavod, Majestic Glory.
Imagine the stately attire worn by Israel’s wealthiest and most magnificent King Solomon. He was lavished in colorful robes interwoven with gold displaying exquisite workmanship. Glorious wealth and the finest of diamonds, sapphires, rubies always accompanied Him. Everything, including the temple, were made with tons of gold and precious jewels. “Lavish with opulence” is written in the job description of any ruling authority.
Read 2 Chronicles 9:3-4. What is Queen Sheeba’s reaction to the array of riches of King Solomon?
The illustrious Queen Sheeba was herself, overwhelmed.
Interestingly enough Jesus says, “That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
He was talking about the white lilies that clothed the green grass.
With human hands, King Solomon arranged a glory majestic to our eyes. It overwhelmed people in its presence.
With divine hands, God creates a majestic beauty that is incomparable! We see the lush gardens and pure white lilies and truly we have even more pure beauty that awaits!
Prophetically speaking, Isaiah says, “In that day the LORD of Hosts will be a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, to the remnant of His people.” Isaiah 28:5
We can see God’s majesty glory now in all that He has made and one day, with our own eyes we will see the Lord who is clothed with splendor and majesty, the king in His beauty. (Isaiah 33:7)
“Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of Hosts, He is the King of Glory!” Psalm 24:7,10
It sends chills down my spine to know that I am the daughter of Majestic Glory! My daughter Madelyn is captivated by princesses. I constantly tell her she is a true princess and one day she will gain a glorious inheritance when we see Jesus! Oh, how we need to embrace this for ourselves and be satisfied with nothing less than what God desires for us.
Read Psalm 27:4 and 145:5. Like King David, let’s seek after and meditate on the beauty of the Lord.
God is infinitely beautiful, Naddir Kavod! May we never be so enthralled with the riches of this world, possessions, prestige or pleasures, that our pursuit of the majestic God is dull, overshadowed and lifeless!
